St. Blaise was a 4th century bishop and physician who was martyred during a persecution of Christians. Over the course of the centuries St. Blaise has been invoked as a patron of physicians as well as those suffering from afflictions of the throat. His feast day is February 3rd.
Since our throats are intricately connected with our voices, the feast day of St. Blaise is an opportunity to pray and reflect upon the
spiritual health of our throats and voices.
What kind of words do we use with one another? Do our voices sometimes overly criticize, demean or otherwise hurt others? Does our speech inspire faith, hope, and love?
