The weekend of November 26-27 marks the beginning of a new liturgical year as we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. With the change of year, we begin Cycle A of scripture readings for Sunday
Mass. The gospel readings on Sundays during Cycle A are taken primarily from the Gospel of Saint Matthew. With the arrival Advent, we commence Cycle I for the weekday readings.
You will notice that with the change there will be some slight differences in the new missalettes placed in the pews. While the missalette will continue to include the same format for the readings and the very same repertoire of hymns, the new missalette will also incorporate the prayers that the priest proclaims during the Mass. It will also include the scripture readings for weekday Masses.
We believe that the inclusion of the texts of the entire Mass will be helpful to those who feel that having a printed text allows for better participation.
And while many who participate in the weekday Masses use the Word Among Us publication to follow the readings, the printed text in the missalette will assure that everyone present has access to the texts.
