You will notice that there are white votive candles on both the left (near the statue of St. Joseph) and on right (near the statue of Our Lady) sides of the sanctuary.
The practice of lighting votive candles is an ancient one, going back to the earliest centuries of the church. The candles represent the prayers of the one lighting them. Hence, when we gaze at the burning candles, we are reminded that we are surrounded by many prayers!
The offering requested to light a votive candle is $10. The offering goes to cover the cost of the candle. Beyond the cost of the candle, the proceeds are given to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society to support their charitable works. In this way, our prayers are joined to the work of assisting those most in need within our community.
