On Tuesday, November 1st, we celebrate the triumph of God’s grace in every person who now enjoys the eternal vision of God in heaven. This is the future to which our faith calls us. A very small portion of these holy men and women has been publicly recognized (“canonized”) and their feast days are now part of the church calendar.
But heaven is full of souls whose names we do not know, souls whose holiness was known to few. Among these blessed souls are surely family members and friends who helped us to live our faith with hope and love.
On all Saint’s Day, we give thanks for this “great cloud of witnesses” (Hebrews 12:1) that surrounds us. We pray that we will learn from the wisdom of their lives. We hope for the day when we will be joined to that great multitude of men and women, who through the centuries of time, gave witness to God’s love. It is a custom in Roman Churches to display the relics of saints in the sanctuary during Mass on All Saints Day.
Over the years, Father Steven has been the recipient of a number of relics of saints acquired as gifts from priests and religious communities. These relics, tangible connections with the saints, will be placed in our sanctuary during our liturgy.
We will celebrate Mass at 9:00 am and at 7:00 pm on All Saints Day. It is a holy day of obligation.
