With the abatement of the pandemic along with the lifting of all national and state health emergency measures, Bishop McManus has announced the restoration of Holy Communion under both species, effective Easter Sunday 2023. From the first days of the church’s celebration of the Eucharist, Holy Communion consisted of the reception of both species in fulfillment of our Lord’s command to “take and eat...take and drink.”
The distribution of Holy Communion to the faithful was the norm for more than 1,000 years of Catholic liturgical practice. For a variety of reasons, by the late 11th century, the custom of distributing the Eucharist to the faithful under the form of bread alone began to grow so that by the 14th century it became the norm. In 1963, the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council authorized the restoration of the practice of Holy Communion under both kinds.
Effective immediately, Holy Communion under both kinds is restored at all weekday Masses (Monday-Thursday) in our parish.
Effective on the weekend of June 10-11, The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of the Lord, Holy Communion under both kinds will be offered at all Masses.
